Here is how to spend a perfect day on the Bay Ridge waterfront, from morning coffee to evening light.
Morning: Coffee at Pier 69 Market

Joggers, cyclists, dog walkers, and stroller-pushers share the space in the easy way that Bay Ridge does everything.
The Verrazzano gets larger as you walk south. If you walk far enough, you reach the base of the bridge itself -- a massive structure that somehow looks even more impressive from below than it does from a distance.
Afternoon: The NYC Ferry
Walk back north to the 69th Street pier, where the NYC Ferry docks. The South Brooklyn route connects Bay Ridge to Dumbo, the Financial District, and other waterfront neighborhoods. The ride to Dumbo takes about 35 minutes and costs the same as a subway swipe.
But the ferry is not the subway. It is a boat. You sit on the upper deck, watch Brooklyn scroll by, pass under the Verrazzano, and arrive at the Manhattan waterfront with the Brooklyn Bridge above you. It is the best public transit experience in New York City, and it departs from Bay Ridge.
Evening: Back to the Neighborhood
Take the ferry back. The evening light on the harbor is different from the morning -- warmer, softer, painting everything in gold and amber. Bay Ridge Avenue is alive with people finishing their days, walking to dinner, sitting on stoops.
